Anisocoria is a condition where your pupils are of unequal sizes. Pupils, the black center of your eye, are usually equal. Anisocoria usually has no effect on the health of your eyes. This physiologic anisocoria occurs in approximately 20% of people. However, anisocoria can be the result of some underlying disease process like cranial nerve palsies that have developed from the following conditions:
Migraine headaches
- Seizure disorder
- Infection like meningitis
- Brain tumor
- Brain aneurysm
- Brain abscess
- Cerebral infarction, stroke
You can be born with anisocoria or it can develop over time. If you develop anisocoria, please see an ophthalmologist. The underlying cause may have other symptoms that include:
- Headache
- Loss of vision
- Blurred vision
- Nausea
- Double vision
- Fever
- Stiff neck
Please call the Fort Worth Eye Associates if you are experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned above. This will help him or she diagnose the underlying cause of your anisocoria.
